I don't know where I have been that I missed this book until now, but I am so glad that I stumbled across it. It is just a stunning, stunning work. Yes, it does delve into some very dark areas of the human psyche. It deals with love, loss, the struggle for acceptance, and the ultimate devastation but it also details a journey back to new love, new acceptance and new hope. The story is told with shifting POVs, using Jamie's journals as the source of flashbacks from present to past. Kelly does a beautiful job with these time shifts. The flashbacks are not linear, rather Kelly manages to use just the perfect flashback in just the perfect place to give us a peek into another dimension of the character's psyche at just the right time. The story unfolds layer by layer.
It is at once, heartbreaking and heartwarming...just a beautiful story. This is definitely a "must read" book.
